A VISIT TO THE NEW KUCHINGORO IDP CAMP 21ST DECEMBER 2023

Banditry and terrorists’ attacks in many parts of Nigeria have rendered women and children as widows, orphans, and homeless persons without food or water. In response to these events, the government set up different camps for the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP). It weas decided that some members of the Counsellors Association of Nigeria (Abuja Chapter) which is the umbrella body of counsellors working in schools, NGOs etcetera should provide food for the inmates of the New Kuchingoro IDP camp in Abuja. This project was carried out on the 21st of December 2023. The camp was an emotional scene. Over 250 children, young girls and older women were attended to with variety of food stuff and drinks. Yes, the children were happy, but we left with a heavy heart. Serious questions about homelessness, an inclusive society, a world where none is left behind etc, may not be achieved within the 2030 projected window due to insecurity. Will there be a shock realization by 2030 that some people were left behind?
