WORLD SUICIDE PREVENTION DAY 2023 – ACTION IN MOTION: 10TH SEPTEMBER 2023

World Suicide Prevention Day (WSPD) is held globally on 10th September each year. It is the United Nation’s effort to create awareness about the dangers of suicide and a call for global support to prevent it. This year’s theme, ‘Creating Hope through Action’ is apt and captures the UN’s position that all lives matter. In collaboration with Counsellors Association of Nigeria, Secure D Future International Initiative, we held a massive awareness campaign at the tourists’ center of Abuja – the Jabi Man-Made-Lake, Abuja.

The massive crowd on picnic was treated with good dance and given lectures/free printed materials that represented our code ‘Say No To Suicide.’ Helplines to call in times of distress were also given out. We in the Association of Christian Counsellors of Nigeria agree with the UN that all lives matter and that proper awareness could give hope to suicidal individuals, prevent and reduce the incidence of suicide in our environment. The UN call for awareness/support is for everyone, governments, corporate entities and civil societies. With concerted effort, we believe, we can instill hope and prevent suicides.
